A Gynaecological laparoscopy also know as Gynaecologic laparoscopy is a surgical procedure that allows a surgeon to examine your fallopian tubes, ovaries, and womb (uterus). It can either diagnose a condition or allow treatment.
Gynecological laparoscopy procedures are
- Diagnose and treat endometriosis
- Diagnose and treat pelvic inflammatory disease
- Remove scar tissue (adhesions)
- Treat an ectopic pregnancy
- Carry out female sterilization, which is permanent contraception
- Remove an ovarian cyst
- Uterus Removal (hysterectomy) or ovaries (oophorectomy)
- Treat Fibroids
- Remove lymph nodes for cancer treatment
Your surgeon may also suggest a laparoscopy if you have pain in your abdomen because it may help to find out the cause. If you’re having problems getting pregnant, then you can have a laparoscopy to see if there are any problems with your ovaries, fallopian tubes or womb.
Gynecological Laparoscopy Procedure
Laparoscopic Gynecological Surgery is a minimally invasive and robot-assisted surgery done under general anesthesia. Therefore several small incisions are made on abdomen near the pelvic area. Firstly, the surgeon introduces a laparoscope (an instrument with a tiny video camera at its tip) through one of these incisions that help the surgeon to visualize the uterine cavity. Then introduces relevant surgical instruments via other incisions that carry out surgical process like; repair of fimbriae, removal of blockage from fallopian tube, PCOS correction, and also the removal of hydrosalpinx. In rare cases, the surgeon uses an incision in the vagina for performing laparoscopic surgery.
Infertility Laparoscopic Surgical procedures
- Tubal anastomosis
This procedure is done to reverse fallopian tubal ligation or to remove blocked or damaged part of the fallopian tubes.
This procedure is done to remove a part of the fallopian tube that has developed hydrosalpinx (buildup of fluid) and also to improve the chances of IVF that was impeded by hydrosalpinx.
This procedure is done when there is development of hydrosalpinx in part of fallopian tube proximal to ovary
It is a reparative process that repairs and rebuilds the fimbriae of the fallopian tube. It is an elective procedure when there is a blockage of fallopian tube near the ovary due to any scar tissue, which hinders the picking up of egg released from the ovary.
This surgical procedure is done to free fallopian tube from adhesions that are occulting the tube
- Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) surgery
Ovarian drilling is done by a heated needle to destroy extrafollicular sacs (egg sacs) formed inside the ovary. These additional sacs produce hormones that cause infertility
Cost of Treatment
The cost of Gynaecologic laparoscopy varies from $500 to $3000 depending on other factors and one geographic area to another.
