Gynecomastia

Gynecomastia also known as Male Breast surgery is done to get rid of excess fat or skin from the male breast or is also used o remove glandular tissue. Causes of Gynaecomastia

However, the rest of the body remains normal. Breast enlargement of about 4.0 cm has been observed in 30-40% cases. It has also been observed that this enlargement doesn’t reduce automatically even after a couple of years.

The chief cause of increased male breast is changed ratio of estrogens to androgens. A surge in Estrogen or female hormones is the cause of increase in the size of male breast tissue. Another cause of  gynecomastia in 10-25% cases is drugs.

Health issues such as kidney failure, liver disease or low testosterone levels in men can cause abnormal breast growth. Other medications such as heartburn and ulcer medications, HIV medication, chemotherapy, hormone treatment for prostate cancer, tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, calcium channel blockers, some antifungal medications, some antibiotics, and herbs such as lavender, or tea tree oil, and Dong Quai are also known to cause gynecomastia. It is difficult to ascertain the cause of gynecomastia in about 25% cases.

Types of Gynecomastia

There are three types of Gynecomastia are following:-

Neonatal– It is a condition that occurs in newborn babies. It occurs due to the presence of maternal estrogens. The problem might subside after few days of the birth of the baby. There is nothing to worry about if the problem still persists. Neonatal Gynecomastia can be treated with neonatal gynecomastia procedure.

Adolescent– It is a condition where nipple starts to grow and looks like a small breast among young males. It identifies as a small and rubbery lump under the nipple. It normally happens during the early years of puberty and fades away after few years. However, if the problem still persists, there is nothing to worry about. The condition can be treated with the neonatal gynecomastia procedure.

Severe– It is characterized by severely enlarged breast and saggy or excess skin. Age can increase the severity of gynecomastia. Older people with this disorder have less elasticity in their skin and thus will have excess sagging skin.  It can be cured by severe gynecomastia procedure. In case of saggy skin, some scarring may occur.
